Falling Leaves

The leaves fall on the ground,

laid bare and vulnerable,
stripped of their roots.
Windswept and carried by time,
from park benches to rubbish heaps,
lighter than the softest touch,
but marred by the harsh contours of age.
The fragile mien,
gives away under mortal steps,
but you can still hear them whisper at night.
